Which used PC is a better buy?

I'm looking to seek my Macbook (2.4GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo). The plastic near the CPU is cracking and it looks like it will fall off within a year. The charger is also torn and I patched it up with electrical tape (Apple replacements are very expensive) the battery is not as good as it used to be either. In about a year Apple will probably stop supporting it. So I want to sell and get a used PC to put linux on. I'm thinking of a

Lenovo Thinkcentre m58p 3.0GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo Desktop $100 + refurb monitor 120. Slightly faster benchmark than my current Mac. Safer bet to me because Linux always seems to run better on desktops and desktops last longer than laptops (from not being banged around and carried, etc).

Lenovo ThinkPad X201- 2.53GHZ Intel Core i5 (1st gen). Twice the benchmark of my current mac. $250.

I think you should build a PC… It sounds crazy and expensive but it's not. If you wanna build a top of the line gaming machine, yeah you're going to be spending in the range of $1000. But if you want a slower, but still very nice PC you can get cheaper parts. You'll need:

Motherboard
CPU
RAM (8-16 recommended)
Hard drive
SSD hard drive (optional, makes loading faster in games)
Power supply (no lower than 600)
Graphics card (optional. Used for gaming)
Mid tower case
3x 120mm fans

The 3rd one, even though its a bit more expensive, with out knowing any other specs, the i5 is far the better CPU than the other two. The mac book sounds like a piece of ****, and all banged up, the 2nd one you say is a bit faster than your mac, but I agree with you that desktops last 100% longer than any laptop.
They all seem fairly old, and I would suggest saving up $200 more and get your self a new desktop (considering you have around $250).
I would either get the Thinkpad due to the i5 or the desktop due to its low price, a bit faster than your mac
