I'm running windows 7 pro, and I can't seem to get any sounds to work. Read the details please?

So I'm running Windows 7 Pro, and I replaced my startup and shutdown sounds with windows XP sounds. But the PC (Lenovo ThinkPad X131-e) won't play them, and it will not play critical error sounds or any other default sounds anyway. I checked RegEdit but I can't find the key to change it. Can someone help me? Also: The RegEdit key just dosent exist. Either i'm wrong… Can someone help me?

Added (1). This is a school PC i'm running, so nothing like wiping the harddrive.

Good gravey man why the heck don't you just factory reset or reinstall and go to lenovo site and download the drivers and free software?

It can take hours to patch a problem but it only takes 20 minutes to do a full recovery!

Lenovos a good machine but do what I suggest.

I fix them all the time and I never play fix this fix that push the lenovo button.

Or if someone has destroyed that capabilities

Do a reinstall and load it up right.
