Is it possible to run y510p without the battery?

A friend of mine has a gaming laptop by Acer (forget the name of the make) and he told me he removes the battery and plugs the charger in every time he uses the laptop (to avoid killing his battery). I would like to know if anyone with the y510p laptop from Lenovo has been able to do this as I would also like to avoid killing the battery while gaming as I'm using this as a substitute until I get a desktop. I need this laptop to last me for quite some time.

Added (1). Ok thanks. Dewcoons, I use the battery power saving software when I'm doing work (and most likely, running purely on the battery). However, it ruins my performance in game and overall since it limits the amount of resources used. So I guess I'll continue to run the laptop this way for now.

Yes, it will run without the battery, but it's pointless. You can leave the battery in.

You can run laptops without their battery assuming that the battery is located where you can easily remove it.

Why your friend thinks that will avoid killing the battery, I have no clue. It was true back in the 90's when laptops first appeared that overcharging them could reduce battery life. But battery technology has improved since then. Removing the battery does nothing to preserve the life of the battery.

A better alternative is to use the battery saving software including on most laptops today. As each brand of battery is different, using the program designed to extend the life of that specific battery is better than removing the battery.

You can run a laptop of any brand with the battery install or removed as when plugged in using the power adapter it is running off the wall outlet while charging and maintaining the battery charge at 100%. No actual need to remove the battery even when at full charge when running it off the power adapter charger.
