I'm planning to buy a lenovo g50 which has 8gb ddr3 memory and an i7 processor to meet my needs. But what matters to me is reliability. All the toshibas I owned each had a problem. Dell and hp apprently have bad psus. Asus is good but I don't really like the brand. I don't know anything about lenovo but I can tell they sell semi high end products for a budget price. So I'm relying on you guys to help me with this because I'm not that familiar with lenovo.
Is lenovo a good laptop brand?
My Lenovo G555 has a common problem--video chip desoldering from MB. 3 TIMES! I gave up. Lenovo is a Chinese brand that started by buying the personal computer business from IBM years ago.
My 16 year old Dell Latitude still works on AC. My 10 month old Dell Inspiron 15 R works fine. My 6 year old Acer Aspire 5610 is good too.
Lenovo is a Chinese company that took over IBMs thinkpad line.
Lenovo is a very good brand.
Lenovo is the highest rated/regarded Windows laptop mfg. Sony, Acer and Toshiba are at the bottom of the list.
Will give you the real answer. I worked for IBM and then Lenovo for over 30 years in Engineering jobs.
First, overall including tablets:

Now, Lenovo has three product lines held separately from each other in laptops.
Thinkpad business higher reliability
Ideapads one step lower
Essentials G series to compete in the low cost market.
Now, most of the brands have sub-brands.
Pavilion and Compaq, Essentials, Satellite, Inspiron, and any Acer/Gateway will have a lot of commonality of lower cost parts used.
The cheapest Asus have a terrible reputation.
I bought a Samsung because I wanted a long cost laptop of quality. It worked. Now, they left the business except a few remaining tablets and ultrabooks.
Unfortunately, you are seeking the lowest priced at the highest performance, and then you speak "reliability and quality". Your actions and desire are not matching.
G series, unfortunately is "generic". They do have some characteristics a little better than other companies.
Now, this is not about an individual laptop, because many failures can be repaired, and it is all about percentages.
Which i7? If there's a "U" on the end, it is very close to an i5.
you is ultra low voltage, underclocked. CPU Benchmarks:

If you are talking Ideapad and Thinkpad, the Lenovo laptops are very good.
"G" series is just like everyone else.
And, Lenovo is a Hong Kong Corporation and has a Beijing HQ. They also have facilities and employees in the USA and Japan. I worked for Lenovo in North Carolina.
