Is my laptop overheating? - 1

Okay, recently i just had my laptop repaired because of the constant 100% disk usage as well as possible overheating.

3 days after getting my laptop back from the shop, i went into the usual games i play, Path of Exile and Dota 2. My temperature readings from RealTemp program was 75 degrees Celsius constantly when i'm in these games even though its on the lowest setting. My power plan is also set to Balanced.

The 2 days after i got back my laptop, everything fine, temperatures were at 50 - 58 degrees Celsius while on idle and goes up to 68 degrees Celsius while in the exact same games.

My specs on this 2 year old Lenovo Y400 laptop are: Intel(R) Core (TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz, 8GB RAM, 64 bit processor and x64 based processor.

Should i be concerned about the change in temperature when i'm gaming or is it just something normal?

PS: My room is also kinda warmer compared to the past 2 days. Could something this simple be the actual cause?

So you should clean CPU fan with dust. Then you will not face this type of problem.

1- while your playing a games needs a good quality of performance, the temperature goes more higher for in any laptop constantly, also it depends on your fan speed

2- if it was 50 without using any of application also that's normal but it most be for a short time not constantly

3- and yes if the room is very warm it makes effects

i advice you to use fan cooler and keep the laptop away from any stuffs around it, make a path for the fan to force the air goes out, not to stuck inside that cause an over heat plus you have to clean it from time to time there's a special brush for cleaning the inner fan it's available you can get it

be patient if the temperature goes higher than the limit it might effects the CPU and that will cost you a lot

also you can check what's the hidden application are using memory that makes affects

on the tool bar click the right click > start task manger > processes

best luck

It is quite normal for the computer to run on higher temperatures when they are fully loaded such as playing games. CPU are designed to run higher than 75C; it will throttle (protect) itself off when it reach the maximum temperature of about 90C. Since you have got it back from the shop, they could have cleaned out the ventilation holes etc; there left with some other measures one could take. One effective one is to use a cooling pad; the other is to lower the CPU's control voltage. There may be other ways. The former will set you back some $ and use some electricity; the latter may make your computer runs a bit slower depending on the voltage setting.

One can use this software to set the control voltage of the CPU

Your temperatures are normal for a laptop.
Don't worry about heat unless you get close to 90 degrees.

Yes you must be concerned. Because 64 degree Celsius is a temperature very high for any laptop. If not cleaned, then better clean the fan section, otherwise try using a cooling pad for it.
