Is there any alternative software to make the mouse on my Laptop (win8.1) less of a POS?

I've already tried adjusting the built in controls but not much help. The whole touchpad+keyboard behavior is way to chaotic and unpredictable. In just the time it took me to write this, the cursor has jumped around several times. Text suddenly starts overwriting, stalls, doesn't respond well, and is overall a POS, as mentioned…

Turn OFF the pad click and rely totally on the buttons. Turn off the edge swipe control.

Try using an actual mouse rather than a trackpad. If it works fine with that mouse, you know it's a problem with the trackpad, not with your software (this is far more likely).

If that's the case, look around for a program specific to the trackpad rather than just mouse settings. For instance, Lenovo trackpads, for instance, come with a program called Lenovo Trackpad Settings, where you can change things there. It'll depend on your laptop manufacturer.
