is this good laptop for gaming on high settings?

It is well over a year old as two levels back in CPU and a level back in graphics. You should be able to get better gaming with quad core i5 and higher performance graphics card. Gaming is mostly about the graphics card, and GTX 950M is now considered below entry level gaming. See this GPU to Gaming at #132, latest games at lowest settings

In searching, so far looks excellent for the price in Australia.

$100 more stronger graphics #114 but weaker CPU by about 10% or so, still adequate.

Not getting any better than you found for $1000.
Tried all major online sellers in Australia. Lenovo at Bing Lee is Great for the Price.

Yes

It's pretty good. It will run almost anything on max settings. I would consider a Desktop if I were you though. You can do better than that in the same price range.
