Just got a new laptop and the fan keeps whirring/running?

Just on Monday I went to Best Buy and bought a Lenovo Yoga 2 11 inch laptop. It's really, really awesome with no cons whatsoever, except this, which I'm not sure is really a con or not, it just makes me really really nervous.
My old laptop was from about 4 years ago, an older Compaq Notebook, and the fan on that thing RAN, LOUD too. It was also really really hot and the battery life sucked.
This new Lenovo laptop does really, really well (sorry old laptop, lol), and when I first got it I didn't hear any fan, and if I did it was very low. Like a little whirring kind of sound. But now the whirring just keeps going and going. It's very low, like Way softer and quieter than my old laptop. But is there a reason why it's just running and whirring now? I've only had this for like 3 days, and today- and even right now- the whirring is just going and going. It runs Windows 8 and I've somewhat learned how to close programs I'm not using, but why does it keep whirring? I also got this for school and I'm really afraid the fan/whirring noise will be too loud for school. (social akward/ not meant for people interaction part here) I'm afraid it will cause too much attention towards me.
Does anyone have some tips?
Please and thank you.

Fans whir to cool down the machine.

If your laptop has relatively powerful specs (like a separate graphics card, and/or Intel Core i7, and/or high amounts of RAM), your PC will require lots of fanpower to keep it nice and cool.

If you have too many processes run in the background, or task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) shows that your CPU/RAM usage is high, you should attempt to close the processes, programs, and apps, that cause the fan to keep working.

Otherwise, this could be the functionality of the hardware, for the fan to constantly whir but softly.

You can check for any BIOS update for your laptop in the Lenovo support site to see if it has any information regarding fan control. Otherwise, perhaps you're not used to how the fan works in the new laptop, and have to get used to it.

Might need cleaning get some compressed air and try clean fans with it.

Yeah the fan is SUPPOSED to do that…
