Lenovo Yoga black screen after disconnecting from external monitor?

Lenovo Yoga displays on both laptop and monitor. When unplugged from external the laptop screen becomes black. No function keys work. It reboots fine but after Windows 10 icon with spinning circle it becomes black and no function key is working.

I'm going to give you some general advice from my experience with working on/owning a Lenovo Yoga laptop. One thing that immediately sprang to mind is drivers. Your display drivers may need to be updated which is why it's not handling the transition from an external monitor back to the laptop screen well. If you are able to get back into Windows go to Then find the serial number to your laptop by looking on the bottom (it's the number that typically starts with MP or PF depending on model). Once you've entered the serial it will pull up all kinds of stuff for the model of laptop you have. Click on the link "Drivers & Software" tab at the top. Once there I recommend getting the driver under Display & Video Graphics. There's also a tool that will auto-detect updates for you using their software which is a quick install.

The issue may also be remedied by letting Windows install any pending updates. If the issue continues to occur after these updates there's an option to chat with Lenovo via the Contact Us link or you can search their forums.

If your computer will not boot up and the display is still black power cycling it by holding down power for 30+ seconds can help reset that. If you have the tools to remove the battery while resetting that would be even better. I hope this helps and you can get your screen working again!
