I'm looking for a laptop for college. Really just need something light with good battery life fast and very durable. Don't want to need another one next year. So I'm just looking to see what my best option under $1000 is. What do you think? Is MacBook Air or the IdeaPad good choices

The MacBook Air is a great choice! I used my Air for 4 years without any problem. Just replaced it for a MacBook Retina.
