New Windows 8 laptop doesn't seem to have a keyboard driver?

My friend received a new, untouched, Windows 8 laptop. However when loading it up and setting it up, he could not type using the keyboard and later when attempting to unlock it as he thought it might be the issue, he couldn't find a driver to begin with. How could he fix this? It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, just the missing driver. Could I somehow identify what driver his computer needs? Is Driver Booster an option? His laptop is a Lenovo TP00048A.

Assuming that nothing strange was done while Windows was setting itself up then there's a fault with the laptop. Take it back to the seller.

You could plug in an external keyboard, which should work, then go to the Lenovo website to find a keyboard driver. Do not use any of the websites that promise to fix your drivers. It is very likely you will end up with assorted malware - just to add to the problems you already have.

The store that sold it should handle this for free

TP00048A is a compliance registration number. It is not a model.

State your country and the model.
In the USA, just about all models have factory installed Windows.
Without knowing where and what, there are few guesses.
It is either a seller issue or manufacturing defect.
