What laptop should I get as an engineering student?

Currently, I'm considering the Asus N550JK and the Lenovo Y410p. Which of these laptops would be better? (I do not plan to play games)

Ideally, I would prefer for the laptop to have a good battery life and less than 5 pounds, an i7 processor (at 2.2gHz or higher), 500gB of HDD or higher (I'm not opposed to a 256gB SSD, but it would have to be on a reasonably priced device).

Also, which laptop is more durable and could last me all four years of college?

Both of the devices you're currently considering are similar in many ways. Looks like one may have a better graphics card which could help when running your designing programs such as the AutoCADs, etc. Having the bigger HDD space would be helpful for those larger programs and to "future proof" your device, give you enough space for storage without having to carry an external, if you do want it to last all of college. I would recommend getting the device with the hybrid HDD (regular HDD + SSD) to increase speed of start up, etc. They are both really great devices. Either way you decide the device will last you a long time as long as you take care of it.

Speaking of which, Mac is awesome and strong, however, people usually go for the other option
such as Mobile Workstation.

Lenovo Y410p is best

I just purchased the lenovo Y410p for $649.99 here

I think the site is having a grand opening sale with free two day shipping. I'm not sure how long it will last but it will definitely meet all of your needs and is excellent for gaming.
