What's a good laptop for college?

So… I'm going to be a senior next year, and I'm planning on going to a local college not far away from home (like literally 10 minutes away). I'm trying to save up and see what I need for college, and one of the "for sure" things is a laptop. Right now I have a Compaq Presario CQ62. It's really good actually, but I don't think it's going to be fast enough for college. My mom and grandma both told me this would never get me through college. So that's why I guess I'm searching for a new one.
I'm not sure what my budget is, but here's what I'm looking for in a laptop:
*slim
*lightweight, but still works good
*fast
*low price (or as low as it can get, preferrably around $200-$300?)
*would be able to have things downloaded and not get slowed down

I think that's all that's on my list for now.
Any suggestions? I've heard Lenovo, Dell, Macs (macs are CRAZY expensive though). Anyone?

I recommend theASUS X750JB-DB71 17.3-Inch Laptop (Dark Gray)

Loads of space for your work, loads of memory for your software and a kickass processor for fast performance. It maybe a little pricey but trust me, it's worth it.
