All my laptops which i have purchased after 2011 have the default screen rez
1366x768
where as the ones i owned previously
"HP Elitebook 8530W" had 1920x1080
and the one before that had
1680x1050
Thats higher than most laptops today
and todays laptops have more power than old ATi cards with core 2 duo
so WHY 1366x768 Most consumer level laptops have that resolution, and that's because 1366x768 panels are cheap to produce and fit. It's a good mid range resolution. Not too low that everything is unacceptably pixelated, but not to high that the displays cost a bomb to fit.
Also, resolution isn't everything when it comes to laptop displays. I have a 2010 HP G56 with a 1366x768 screen, and the display is really nice for an inexpensive laptop. It's not the crispest in the world, but it's perfectly acceptable. But then I bought a 2013 Lenovo Flex 14 with the same resolution, and the screen is mindblowingly awful. Washed out, pixelated, dull as you like. It's so bad that I actually had to buy a monitor to hook in via the HDMI port, as I couldn't stand photo editing on such a bad screen.
So if a good screen is important to you, I highly recommend checking out reviews first. Full HD does not automatically mean good-that depends on the manufacturer of the display, its pixel density, and the size. So the only way to tell if a screen is good is to try before you buy, and see what others have to say. Most high end laptops have full hd monitors hell some even have 4k, most cheaper ones don't cause the 768p panels are easier to make, you need to remember that hp was a workstation class machine and was probably very expensive when it was released You can have higher res if you want to pay for it
