Can the lenovo y580 output 144hz with HDMI to the Asus vg248qe?

I have an Asus vg248qe monitor and a lenovo y580 which has HDMI 1.4a but no dvi or display port ports. The Asus vg248qe monitor can output 144hz but I have heard that HDMI 1.4a can't output a refresh rate higher than 60hz when displaying a resolution of 1080p. Is this true? If it is can you connect a HDMI 1.4a to dvi-d converter to achieve a refresh rate higher than 60hz? If so can you give me the name of this converter? Thanks.

Yes, that is true, most current HDMI input and output devices under HDMI 2.0 do not support refresh rates over 60hz or resolutions over 1080p and an adapter will not help you. However, HDMI 2.0 does support higher resolutions(although I haven't heard of anything about higher refresh rates).
