I have a really old desktop ( i think its a lenovo think centre m52) which originally had vista but I downloaded windows 7 on it and now its really slow. I was thinking all I needed to do was put some RAM and an internal or external hard drive but is that all I need to do to upgrade itproperly (the cheap way) in order to play aproper pPC game on it and to run a daw
How to upgrade my very old desktop pc?
First: Do You Really Need to Upgrade?
The Real Difference Between Upgrading and Building a New Rig
Decide Which Parts Need Upgrading
>> However, it's not always as simple as that. Here are some other things you'll need to keep in mind:
>> Is that component dependent on other components?
>> Will upgrading that component cause a bottleneck?
>> How old is your current hardware?
We know it's not a cut and dried answer, Mad Modder, but that's because the difference between "upgrading" and "building a new computer" isn't as clear as it might seem-since so many of your parts are reusable. The important thing for you to do is audit your system, figure out exactly how much of your computer you'll have to "upgrade" to get the upgrade you actually want, and price it out to see if it makes sense. You may find that you have to save some more money to make it worthwhile-but you'll be much happier with the end result
I'm unclear as to what you are trying to do. But if what you listed is correct, that is an 8 year old computer that uses a 32 bit Pentium 4 and was only installed with 512 mb of RAM and installed with a 3 1/2 inch 1.4 mb floppy drive. That thing is a dinosaur now days (although I worked with the far older 8086/8088 in my days). Windows 7 runs better with at least 6 gigabytes of memory (12x what was it was sold with), and that computer Can't handle it or even address that much.
There's very little you can do for it. It was never designed as a gaming setup. You would need to replace the motherboard, cpu, RAM, hard drive, video card and power supply. In other words, better off getting a newer computer. Chances are the newer hardware would not fit in that case.
