In general, are the specs on this computer considered good?

RAM: 12GB

It looks like a very strong general use computer. Pretty much just what I need at home. My computer is an older i5 @ 2.1G w/ 8G. For me, it's blazing. My kids play games that require high end video cards and with one in the computer they look good, but I think we're going to need an upgrade for gaming soon. (Since yours is newer it will have features mine doesn't, which will increase it's speed even further compared to mine.)

If you're building a gaming system and you want it to last I'd go with at least the newest model of i5 that's made for gaming. I7 would be better. Not all i7's (or i-whatevers) are alike. You could cheap out on video until you're ready to blast.

If you're going to just browse, use email and Microsoft office, that computer will last you 7 or more years. You could drop to an i3 for fewer.

Usually the first question a store will ask you is what will you be using it for.

What are you going to do with it? Different tasks need different parts to be good.

That computer should be plenty fast enough to do most ordinary tasks but as far as gaming know the processor is just a little bit too slow for that
