How to fix slow laptop charging? (read desc)?

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad e540 that s been sitting for awhile because the charger broke, I got a new one (90 watt, higher than original) and it takes 6+ hours to charge the OEM battery (it charges at about 7 watts) Do I need a new battery? Can I open the pack and replace the cells instead of buying a overpriced new one?

I think you need a new Dock. Here's one that is suited for a e540

If you want to save your money, i'd call Tech and ask them if this could be the problem before shelling out.

So you are charging the laptop with a charger that is not the correct wattage so it has to convert the wattage and then wonder why it takes longer. Ok…

I would not recommend trying to open the battery and replace the cells within it. If not done right (and it is NOT something the average user can do) you risk destroying the system board and entire laptop.

If the battery is holding the charge it does not need to be replaced. Only correctly charged.

If you think the battery is at fault then get another one. The battery has also got controlling circuitry inside as well as battery cells. How do you know that it is using just 7 watts while charging.
