How to transfer videos from a Sony DCR-HC62 Handycam with laptop(lenovo z510) by i. Output? - 1

The Sony DCR-HC62 Handycam records standard definition video to miniDV tape. To get the video off the tape using a digital connection:
CAMCORDER OFF.
Connect the camcorder's DV port (not USB) to the computer's firewire port (not USB) with a firewire cable (not USB). Firewire, IEEE1394, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing. USB-to-firewire converter/adapter/cable things will not work. There are more instructions, but they don't matter. The problem is that your Lenovo Z510 has no firewire port and no PCMCIA or ExpressCard expansion card slot to add one.

The ONLY option you have is to use the "analog" method. You'll need an "analog/digital converter". Connect the AV cables to your camcorder's AV-out. Then connect the other side of this to an analog/digital converter's AV-in… Then connect the A/D converter to the computer's USB port. Black Magic Design and Elgato make good A/D converters. There are other manufacturers - some as good - most not as good…
