I'd like it to be fast on the internet.
Play a lot of minecraft.
I'd also be emailing and document/presentation work.
I was thinking of a gaming laptop, would there be any downsides, besides price? Could you also recommend some options, thanks!

Price is not a huge issue, but preferable under or not much above 2k
First and far most, your internet speed is going to depend on the speed of your network connection, and not your laptop.
In terms of a gaming laptop, you have several options.
In terms of brands, and for gaming, I recommend ASUS and Lenovo as my favorite brands. Asus seems to be alot better in terms of high-end gaming devices, but tend be rather pricey. Lenovos are really good as well (I have one), and they tend to be good Workstation machines. (machines that are designed to do large tasks, and some light gaming).
The other thing you could consider is getting an Ultrabook (Samsung, Toshiba, ASUS, and Lenovo). Ultrabooks are thin a light laptops that usually pack a punch, and are meant to handle similar tasks to a laptop workstation.
Because I'm not sure where you live, I can't really show you many stores, other than those online.
In terms of price, there isn't anything "high performance" for under $600.
Alienware (Hardcore Gaming):

That one is rather expensive. $2,149.99
Lenovo Ultrabook:

This one is also very expensive, $1,799
If those are too pricey, you could always go to a local store and ask an tech expert there to help you.
