I need a laptop for college and want a reliable brand. I know within every brand there are bad models and very solid reliable models. But which ones are the most reliable. I'm looking at a Lenovo, Asus, HP, and Dell.
Most reliable brand besides Apple?
I currently have a Samsung Series 5 550P5C and although I'm impressed with the power and capabilities of the computer, it isn't a solid computer. I had a HP G62-219CA for about 4 years that I just gave to my sister for school, and it might be the most solid PC laptop ever built. I've dropped it a million times, the screen is strong and doesn't sway when you move the computer, and the keyboard has never broken. Although it isn't the most powerful computer out there, I'd highly recommend HP or Compaq (they're essentially the same company) or the newer Asus Ultrabooks I have also heard good things about, but I can't vouch for them.
Recommended computer: HP G62-219CA (or other in Hp G series notebooks)
Asus or Lenovo. HP is on the cheaper side now and over charge for the name. Dell is absolute garbage. I would never invest money in a dell. And don't listen to ben about a compaq. That is the worst piece of junk you can get. I'd get a dell over a compaq any day and I hate dell's. They use to be really good… Until about 8 years ago. But i've done tons of research, read reviews and sold them at best buy. Asus or Lonovo is the way to go.
Apple defiantly is the most reliable but they're pricy. Abut for windows computers all I know is stay away from toshiba
Asus and Lenovo. Bear in mind that most of what you get with respect to reliability is going to come from how you treat the laptop. Very few people clean them properly. Ever six months or so you need to take the back panel off and take a can of compressed air to it. That's how you make a computer last. You can also use a vacuum once a month to prevent any buildup from happening.
Here's an example of the process.
