I've had the best luck with Acer (since 1998), especially their desktops. And HP Laptops.

Best is either Sony or macbook, my worst by far was lenovo.

My Dell Latitude CPx-H500 from 1999 bought on refurb from Dell (off lease) still works Win98SE okay, needs a battery.
My Dell Inspiron R 15 from 2012 that I bought on sale at Office Depot (new, but old model) is fine for the last 17 months.
My Acer Aspire 5610-4610 from 2008 is good with Vista, but battery does not power it for very long.
My Lenovo G555 from 2011 has had 3 video chip detachments, a common problem. Now trying a replacement motherboard.
I repair my neighbor's HP laptop (3 yrs old) regularly, mostly hard disk hardware failures.

I haven't had too many laptops yet. Worst experience was Toshiba 1/3 times.

However, my parents have both had HP laptops and HP only. They've both had their laptops for over 6 years and they're running fine, even though they bought cheap pieces of junk even for the time. They've taken damage though, like cracks because they dropped theirs.

My grandmother has a Toshiba Satellite L… Something. That is being used since 2011. It's starting to fail already. I had a refurbished Dell Latitude D620 I got in 2013, but since it had to be so old, I didn't expect it to be good. Hinges broke from simple use over 2 years, along with the hing cover. The thing still runs though.

My worst computer owned was an HP. Nothing but trouble and little if any customer service. The best experience with a computer brand has been a Vision Computer. Excellent customer service and a three year warranty on their own brand of computer.

Asus and acer are GREAT laptops but it depends what you will use it for. If it's just for browsing the web then MacBook hands down, but for casual gaming the asus is the best. Acer is good at both. If you want to edit videos than the MacBook Pro. Also lenovos have the worst screens.
