You should ask your department head and/or supervisor, since we can't guess which software you will be using, and therefore, which OS you need, and therefore, which laptop you need.

If you game, Windows laptop with dedicated gaming GPU & i5 8GB. If not, any laptop will do even the $400 ones. Not recommend Chromebooks though.
