Why is my computer so slow after system restore?

I have a Lenovo G580 with Windows 8 which I had rebooted about a month ago as I had a bad virus problem. However after I rebooted it, it seemed to have got even slower. I have tried putting the PC on high performance, I have done disk defragment, disk cleanup, turned down fancy pc settings to fast. It still seems to run slow. I mainly use my PC for gaming, so anything related to that is much appreciated.

P.S. My computer has Intel Core i3 and it has been able to run games I want very fast until around 6 weeks ago. So I don't want to hear that my PC isn't good enough. Thanks.

Added (1). Also, I don't want to hear about Windows 8 being the problem, as I have been able to run my games fine on it before, I just want to hear if there's anything else that could be a problem.

The problem is that it is Windows 8. I know this because I have to do a system restore every 6 months because of a virus problem (even though I have norton internet security). I'd recommend scrapping the Windows 8 computer or downgrading to Windows 7.

Slow PC performance can be caused for by multiple core issues. First thing is did you use a manufacture Resote disc, Refresh option (feature of windows 8), or Reset option (another windows 8 feature essentially restoring the system to manfacture settings without cd). Furthermore are you able to confirm you do not have failing parts in the system. A common failure point is Hard drives. They can go out at any time really depending on the usage, condition, specific setup, ect. Though I'm sure some here will have good first steps, and I see you've done most of the basic ones, I'd get it checked up with someone who has HDD testing equiptment or better yet full diagnostics equiptment. Hope this helps!
