Advice for buying a new gaming laptop?

Hello and thanks for considering to reply to my question.

First let me say that i'm not an avid gamer, i play for about 20 hours a week max and I'm not very skillful, but the thing that annoys me to the point of insanity is when my screen freezes or my laptop crashes.

I'm going off to college next year and will be staying at dorms for the first two years (probably) so i need a portable rig, i know that building my own desktop would be much cheaper and better compared to what i can get on a laptop. I'm looking for a laptop that looks good, that isn't over 5 kg (11 lbs) , has a RAM of or above 16 gigs and has a killer graphics card. I have a budget of 3000 dollars and keep in mind that I will use the laptop for all sorts of multimedia purposes. I don't know a lot of brands other than alienware or asus rog. I need a brand that i can trust, that won't fail me after a year (cause 3k is a lot of money).

I hope you can help and i would appreciate personal experience responses rather that just spewing out specs i can easily find online.

How to I go from VGA on my laptop to HDMI on my tv?

I have a new lenovo thinkpad w540 and it has VGA out but my LG tv has HDMI in. I did some research and basically found out that they don't work together because ones digital and ones analog but someone has to have found a good way to do it. All the converters i found online show the laptop as having the hdmi and the tv with the vga, will those converters still work even if its reversed or at all. I also saw that the vga to hdmi cables can work if your graphics card supports digital through the vga port, is that true and if so would it work for me, my graphics card is just the standard one it comes with. If anyone has a surefire way to do it let me know.

Will my laptop be compatible with the new Nvidia Shield update?

I have a Lenovo y510p laptop with a GT 750m GPU, and I'm highly interested in the Nvidia Shield. It was confirmed that the Shield would be getting an update that allows beta streaming from Nvidia laptops with a GTX 600m "or higher". I know GT 750m isn't a GTX, but I've heard that it is on par with, if not better than, the weakest GTX GPU's. My question is, is my GT 750m compatible with the Nvidia Shield? If not, do you think it's still worth a purchase?

Why is my laptop malfunctioning?

A few months ago I purchased a Lenovo Y410 and it has been working great, despite the lackluster Win 8 OS. To protect and preserve it I had installed Tune-up Utilities, Bitdefender antivirus, Malwarebytes and recently Comodo Firewall. The previous three had functioned with no issue. However just a few hours ago I installed the Comodo as I realized I had no firewall and wanted to block maleware and the like, having had the highest remarks on the sites I viewed I went with Comodo.(I went to the official site and opted to install the Prividog app to block popups)

Following the install I had to restart, and that is when the trouble began. First of all I kept getting the same messages from Comodo about processes doing things, and when I say the same, I mean the same exact program doing the same exact thing. So I wanted to troubleshoot and went to my browser, turns out my keyboard was not working, none of the keys would respond. I figured a reboot would help, but it did not… Now when I turn on the computer I heard a sound that is like the noise you hear when you hook up your headphones to your computer. Also the monitor will not come on, the lights show the computer is operational, but the monitor will not kick on. If anyone has any insight that would be awesome as I really like that machine and would hate to have to go back to this older one… Not to mention the money that would be wasted.
