Monitor won't connect to my PC (Gpu)?

I want to connect my Lenovo 21 inch monitor into my ibuypower 1060 gtx PC. There's only 1 DVID port that goes into my graphics card. And my monitor does not have a DVID port.
I bought a converter and a DVID wire. DVID into my Gpu and VGA into my monitor (should I have used my monitors hdmi instead?).

The 2 don't even register with each other. Pc turns on but monitor stays off. Only turns on when I hook up hdmi to hdmi. But I can't use the graphics card that way. Help please.

When I run my pc on hdmi it says my gpu is running but I can't use Nvidia control panel or anything

NVIDIA Display settings are not available, you are currently not using a display connected to your GPU?

I've been trying to get my GPU (gtx 1060) to work, but my new PC is only using the onboard graphics card. I have my LENOVO 21 inch monitor connected to my iBuyPower PC through…
HDMI
Monitor's VGA port converted to PC's DVI D port (only port for the graphics card, or so i think.) My monitor does not have a DVI D port. Only HDMI and VGI

I downloaded the latest NVIDIA drivers, still won't work. This set up is brand new. Any ideas?

Added (1). **I'm plugged in through both HDMI AND VGA>DVID… Or else monitor and pc won't be turn on with eachother

Will Lenovo accept it for a replacement?

I just bought a Lenovo Y710 and it was defective, damn thing kept freezing. Anyway after calling them they agreed to send me a replacement but out of curiosity… I took off the side panels just to take a look to see if I could see anything obviously wrong. Stupid me, I bent the pins on the motherboard when pulling out the video card… I mean I bent them all, bad, so now the video card is basically just sitting on top of the pins. Will Lenovo still accept it for a replacement? I even told them that the connection to the motherboard from the video card was…"maybe damaged during shipping" Lmao
