Can taping a cooling fan to the outside of my desktop case help cool the computer down?

Can taping a cooling fan to the outside of my desktop case help cool the computer down?

Added (1). It may sound dumb, but I don't dare to open the case yet.
Plus, I don't have any spare external cooling pads/devices I can add to the desktop case.
So until I get one, is it okay if I do just that?

My rig is not a external machine. The monitor and case and all the parts are mounted together in a display.

Looking for a new computer? - 1

I have a Lenovo W520 laptop I've been using for about 4 years now. My warranty has expired and it keeps shutting down or freezing after the screen randomly distorts. This is just the most recent of many such issues and I'm thinking it's time to upgrade.

I'm going into college as an AudioVisual Production major, so I expect to be doing lots of video editing, sound engineering, and maybe even 3d modeling. In my free time I enjoy gaming and plan on starting up a YouTube channel with lots of gaming-related content, so I'll need something that can handle all that as well.

I do realize this would be easier and cheaper to accomplish on a desktop PC, but I need to have a laptop for the times I'm traveling or I'm not at home. I have a rough budget of $1600 to work with and I'd like to go into this decision informed about my options.

How to factory reset a computer without the password?

So my friend sold me their Lenovo desktop computer a few days ago; I believe the computer has Windows 8 although I'm not sure. It's in great condition, there's just one problem: they never reset the computer. So, it requires a password to get into it. They told me it should ve been reset but they think maybe it didn't work. And they don't remember the password, which is great. I have seen a few suggestions on starting the computer in safe mode. I held f8 while booting up and nothing happened. I don't have a software disc or anything like that, nor do I have another computer at the moment to download something onto a USB or disc for my new computer. I know, not giving y all much to work with here. But I would very much appreciate any help I can get, or if I'm starting safe mode wrong please let me know!

I have been trying to transfer data from a flash drive. What am I doing wrong?

I put a hard drive from a Toshiba Notebook NB505 into a Insignia brand USB 3.0 Laptop Hard Disk Drive Enclosure so as to extract files and drag and drop them onto the desktop of my Lenova ideapad 100S laptop. I think that the Lenova laptop detects the attached hard drive as "Local Disk D:" so I click on that and then
I get "product configuration missing"
message.

Can anyone give me advice on what to do. I really want to find out if the files I need are still in the old hard drive and how I can extract them. I'm hoping I don't accidentally delete them.
I guess computer experts are the ones who would best know.
Thanks for any advice.

Depending on the answers, I will ask more questions or give more details

Added (1). The question should read "I'm trying to transfer data from a Hard Drive

Added (2). TO UPDATE THIS QUESTION FURTHER, I FOUND OUT THAT THE LENOVO LAPTOP DOES NOT EVEN DETECT THE ATTACHED HARD DRIVE. THE "LOCAL DISK D" THAT I MENTIONED WAS A DIFFERENT FILE.
AM I USING THE WRONG KIND OF HARD DRIVE MOUNT?

Turning my PC into a decent gaming rig, suggestions?

I was going to start selling my other laptop and my xbox one and try to save up for a whole new gaming pc to build, but someone told me I should just put a good graphics card in my desktop I already have ( a lenovo k450e i5 with 8gb ram and 1tb of hd but no SSD) that me and my dad use for simple stuff like YouTube and school stuff. I figured it'd be a lot cheaper and a pretty good idea, I was thinking of just putting a new around 250$ nvidia card in there and buy around 200 gba of SSD, do you think that'd be good for me just running games like h1z1 and rust at high settings? And any suggestions on any parts I should throw in as well?

I'm looking for a good Graphic Design Computer, any advice?

Hi, I have been searching for the past couple weeks for a All in One Desktop that I can use at home (as I already have a laptop that I use for most of my work) I would use it for Graphic Design and I recently bought a pen tablet from Wacom that I want to hook up to it. Any suggestions? I'm in the $700 or lower price range, and I do not want to use Mac. Been looking at Lenovo or HP.
