Why is my Tiny desktop PC hotter than laptop?

I bought a ThinkCentre tiny, which is a desktop about 7"x7" size, smaller but thicker than a laptop. The whole machine gets really hot, especially the bottom, much hotter than my Thinkpad.

I thought even though it's small it's still a desktop, so should be cooler than a small laptop?

Do normal graphic cards (desktop) work with my lenovo yoga 3 14 inch. (Intel 5500u mobile graphics)?

So I have come across a problem, my ultrabook laptop seems good from the outside with an Intel i7-5500u mobile processor in it, but the integrated graphics just don't cut it for any gaming (I don't want to do anything intense, just casual stuff), so I found this "[Mini PCI-E Version] V8.0 EXP GDC Beast Laptop External Independent Video Card Dock" (http://www.banggood.com/Mini-PCI-E-Version-V8_0-EXP-GDC-Beast-Laptop-External-Independent-Video-Card-Dock-p-1011222.html) the problem is that my device (Lenovo Yoga 3 14 80JH) is not listed as compatible. I know that there's a mini pci port on my computer (where the wireless chip currently is) so there shouldn't be any problem connecting it. Basically my question can be summed up to can a full-fledged desktop graphics card work on an intel 5500u MOBILE chip, or do I need to have a mobile graphics card (in which case the video card dock won't work). I know it's not a common problem, but I would really appreciate the help before I buy something that won't work. Do normal graphic cards desktop work with my lenovo yoga 3 14 inch.
