Appropriate laptop for university?

So, I'm going into university this fall, for Science, and I'm looking to get a new laptop. I've done some research and I'm really into the Lenovo Ideapad U430 and the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro.

I would like some more insight into these two, preferably from a student's POV, but any will be appreciated. I'm not a huge dead-set on tablet hybrids, but I wouldn't mind it. Generally, I'm just looking for good bang for my buck and decent battery life. Not a great gamer, but I do dabble in some PC games - Portal, Nancy Drew - so a laptop that holds up with that kind of stuff would be nice. I mostly surf the web (research) and watch/stream movies and TV shows, so it'd be nice if I had a device that didn't die after 2 seconds of media viewing.

I'm willing to do more research, but I'm also open to other devices, I've looked into the Asus Zenbook and I kind of like that as well (although I can't find it at any retailer!).

Any insight is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Should I buy this laptop?

I need an answer in about 20 minutes… Is this a good laptop? I need it for programming and school, but have never used AMD before, so I don't know how they compare to Intel. Can someone please tell me if I can program and do school on this…

What can I do to fix my laptops wireless connection?

My lenovo laptop has been experiencing wireless connectivity problems that have progressively gotten worse to the point where it won't hold a connection for more than 10 seconds, if it even recognizes the built-in adapter at all. The steps I have taken:
- Make sure all drivers are up to date
- Reset router
- Run virus scan to see if something is flagged (nothing)
- 'Troubleshooting' used to work usually, and now it just comes back with a message saying windows can't solve the problem
- Occasionally I used to get a message that said potentially the hardware was experiencing problems
- Went into a PC laptops that quoted $150 just to do a diagnostic… But they did say my wireless card is not just an easy swap if that was the trouble, it's integrated

*What can I do to be able to connect again?
*Would a USB adapter give me the same problems? I have seen some on amazon for ~20 dollars

My framerate has dropped significantly, I don't know why?

Recently, I had my laptop repaired. During that time, it was updated to windows 8.1, and I had a technician go through and make sure my drivers were correct (which I fixed and few and the rest were fine). Now, however, I've been experiencing huge framerate drop in games.

DayZ Mod, for example, now only runs at 15-25 fps when I used to get 35-45fps consisantly, sometimes 50 at peaks, now it seems to peak at ~30fps.

Any idea as to why my laptop is running this way?

Specs:
Lenovo Y410p, 64x bit operating system
Intel i7-4700MQ CPU@ 2.40 GHz
8.00GB RAM
1TB 5400 RPM+24GB SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GT755

Can a sim card be used in a laptop?

Just a thought: could someone make an sd-sim card adapter and software/program that would easily allow me to use the micro sim card I take out of my phone, in my laptop/ultrabook (running windows or mac OS)?

This seems like such a logical thing to do because it would allow you to easily have internet on the go without paying a ton more money for mobile internet.

Preferably someone with more tech knowledge than me can explain why this isn't possible, or if it is why someone hasn't done it, thanks!

Can't unmute my computer?

I have a lenovo laptop and it has Windows 8. When I open it it works fine, but after I close it and then, again, open it, the laptop mutes and I can't unmute it! I press the button to unmute it but it does nothing. I checked for viruses (Antivirus: Avast!) but it shows me that I don't have any. I treid to find support on the Microsoft site but again, I didn't find a solution. What can I do?
