Best value laptop suitable for moderate gaming?

Basically I'm looking to buy a laptop as next year I'll be in my last year of college so will need to do work/ researching etc. So have found some pretty cheap basic laptops (I already use my iPad for work but it's not practical for coursework). However, I've also been quite a bit of a gamer, especially on the xbox, but I haven't been playing much recently, (and as I'm going to uni soon) I'd like to get a laptop which can handle games. I'd like to be able to play newish games such as ArmA and DayZ but understand that for a laptop it wouldn't be in the best quality, but that's fine.

After doing lots of research on the topic over the internet I'm now fully aware that it would be easier and cheaper to building my own gaming PC, however this is pretty much out of the picture due to needing to be able to move around for college and then uni and also my internet at home is not quick for downloading so I'd need to download games and software when at college.

So if you know of any good value laptops which can handle moderate gaming, and could help me to understand what to specifications to look out for I'd be very grateful. Again, I appreciate a PC would be best but it isn't a solution.

Screen before Windows 8.1 Lock Screen?

First, what is the proper name of the screen that pops up before any action is made? How do I change the image of this screen?

When first turning on my Lenovo Laptop, this is the screen that pops up.

How do I change this image? It is the screen that pops up right before the lockscreen.

Which laptop should I get? And why? Asus vs Lenovo?

Guys I'm considering buying one of these laptops. I really like the the 17.3 screen of the Asus but I really don't know which one to choose.

I'm a graphic designer myself, so, I need the laptop to use Photoshop and like programs, and some 3D softwares every now and then, and video editing. I will be playing Sims 3 on the laptop, too.

I will probably have this laptop for the next 2-4 years, so I want it to be a good buy.

Don't really care much about the screen resolution though, cause I will be getting and additional HD monitor to connect the laptop to.

I don't use the laptop on the "go", but I need to carry from house to house, so portability and weight is not a problem cause I will be putting it on a desk/table most of the time, will never use it on a car or bus, also since I'm only going to be using it at the house, battery is not really an issue

Going to buy a new laptop?

Since I'm graduating next year(from high school), my dad is going to buy me a laptop. Yet, I do not know which laptop I should buy! I already have HP pavilion dv6 laptop but I'm not really happy with it. It over heat quickly, the battery was dead in like a year and also the screen is messed up; there are two random lines appearing on the screen. So my point is that I'm not really thinking to buy a HP laptop.

What will I use it for:

For school work, I usually play games on it but not like hardcore games(battlefield, farcry etc…). I play games like war thunder and all those games that doesn't require hardcore graphics. I also make videos(usually for school) with adobe products(or sony vegas.

I want a computer that I can easily finish my school work and can easily run games like war thunder. If you know any good laptops please inform me
