Lenovo Radom Screen Blackout?

About a year or so ago I bought a lenovo G780 and it was a pretty good laptop. However, for about a month now its been randomly blacking out, and won't come back on for a random amount of time. If I shine a really bright light on it I can see that everything is working like normal but the backlight isn't coming on. So my question is: Do I need to get a new screen or is there some other way to fix this?

Is this a good deal for a laptop?

I'm buying a new Laptop and was wondering if it's worth it, anyways here are the specs:

Intel Core i5-4200U Processor 1.6 Ghz up to 2.6Ghz
6 Gigs of RAM
750 GB HDD
17'3 HD (900p display)
OS is Windows 8 I think
+ all the standar stuff (USB ports ect)

The offer was for around $1000 do you guys think that is a fair deal or over/under priced.

Just as some extra info… I'm big into gaming/movies as well as needing the laptop for standard work.

Thanks in Advance for the help.

Added (1). Sorry forgot to mention… It has something called a WLED with Truelife (1600x900)

What Laptop should I get?

I prefer a thin and light 13"-14" screen Note book, i don't know what brand should i get though but I'd prefer a reasonably popular brand. Primary Tasks that I'll be performing with this notebook:
Web surfing/browsing, school work (word/excel/powerpoint), Occasional Gaming, Listening to Music, Movie Streaming and Viewing, Output Video to TV or Large Monitor. OS I'd prefer (Windows 7 / 8).
