Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour LAN network problem?

I've been trying to set up a generals game the past couple hours on the local LAN network, but my laptop won't connect or something with the other computer. In the game lobby (multiplayer > network) we see each other's name in the player list, and when I make a game he can join just fine, but when I press play game and the next loading screen starts (the one with the general's name/picture at the top and the description of the units) it doesn't work.

On my screen, my loading bar fills all the way, but his doesn't even start. On his screen, the two bars fill completely and the game starts, but it immediately freezes and has that timeout screen where you can vote to kick players or quit the game. Meanwhile my screen is still stuck. Can anyone please help?

BTW I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 with windows 8 installed

Alienware 14 i5 vs Lenovo y510p vs my mx18 i7 2nd gen?

I currently own a mx18 alienware 2nd gen with i7 processor and 8gb ram.
It's quick but portability is a nightmare it's bulky and I have quite a few large format printers for graphics work and it's a nightmare carrying it up and down the stairs all the time. Am after something easier to move and possibly to upgrade to faster machine.

How does the i5 4th gen intel processor compare to my current i7 2nd gen processor. I heard the new 4th gen i processors are a lot quicker then the old older ones for processor demanding tasks like graphics work. Not sure how that compares from an i7 2nd gen to a i5 4th gen.

I've had quite a few laptops/pcs. Use to follow latest technology when I use to game 7 years ago and at uni but lost what's good now. My Alienware on the same level as a high powered PC in my eyes. It's served me well am just getting sick of carrying around to printer & clients home.

Any advise from a techy would be great.

What slows down my laptop (Lenovo z460 i5)?

I need help. I'm having problems with my laptop recently. It's very slow during boot. And it hangs every time a click on something (like folders, start button, computer, etc.). Been using this laptop for 3 years now. I'm not sure what causes the problem. Is it because of a faulty hardware? I wasn't having these problems before.

Added (1). And by the way, I already did a CHKDSK. And reformat and re-installed windows 7 (also tried windows 8). I'm still having the same problems.

Mac Book Air vs Lenovo Yoga?

So I'm going to be a college freshman, I've never had a laptop before, and I'm debating on which laptops I should get. I've narrowed down my choices to the Mac Book Air and the Lenovo Yoga. All these websites just tell me the technical differences, but on a more personal level I'm hoping to get answers on what is TRULY different about the two and which is better as far as security software and maintenance. Basically which is more convienient and would give me less problems through my college years?
